Last week seems so long ago! I think that I managed to get my swap items for the do.Good.Stitches swap complete. I also spent A LOT of time at the Apple store nursing my poor computer back to health. I think it is almost there. After spending 4 hours with the geniuses the first time I went, I learned that I better bring something along to keep me entertained! Out came my star blossom project from Camp Thimble.

I only got a few odd glances too. Or maybe I got more but just didn't notice. Whipstitching requires a lot of my attention. My first few attempts to sew together the kites resulted in lots of seam ripping as they were uneven and it really showed.
I've also spent a little time working on these gingham napkins-- though for me they will be burp cloths. My color palette was inspired by this onesie. And I used this gingham from my stash-- actually it comes from my brother's stash. He once thought he might go into garment making and bought a ton of this. I'm glad to be able to help him use it :)
This seems to be the summer of quilt alongs and while there are a lot that I would like to do, since I don't have a Christmas quilt (and never have the time to make one come the holidays), I decided to use some of Laurie Wisburn's Brrrr fabric for the Vintage Holiday Quilt Along.
stacked and ready to be cut!
I started a little bit of prep work yesterday. I tend to be an assembly-style quilter in that I like to cut everything out before I start sewing, but that seems to sort of defeat the quilt along (because then I'd be tempted to sew up the blocks as soon as I was done cutting). I sorted through my fabrics and cut all the background fabric and then only the fabric for the actual ornaments we are working on this week. And here they are:
These blocks are definitely addicting! I may have cut out the blocks for next week too, but I am going to try my best to hold off on making them! ;)
What are you working on this week? Linking up to WIP Wednesday.
cute napkins with the ric rack!! Love the Christmas balls too:):):)
ReplyDeleteOh, wow your star blossom looks awesome! And I love the napkins/burp cloths. Great colors! I have to get some BRRR fabric, those are just too cute. Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteWowza for that star blossom!
ReplyDeleteI just bought the pattern for the star blossom. I found that I did better with my sewing stitches when the pattern is stiffer! I can't wait to start it but I have too many projects right now. I am impressed with how much you get done in a week! I'm jealous! I know I'm a slow sewer.
ReplyDeleteLovely colors and fabric choices on the star blossom block, pretty napkin/burp cloths too! I've yet to start on mine...
ReplyDeleteFantastic choice on the fabrics for your qal too - love the colors and prints! can't wait to see the finished quilt!
That star blossom block is amazing!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear that the Apple Geniuses fixed your computer. I've had a similar experience recently, but ended up having to send it to the service center and pay to get some parts replaced. :( The Geniuses at the store were very helpful though!
ReplyDeleteOoh, I'm going to look into that Christmas QAL, i also don't have a Christmas quilt.
Your Star block looks gorgeous!
Your burp cloth project make over is brilliant! Ric rac rules. I hadn't heard about that quilt along, but your holiday blocks are super cute. I'll pop over to look at the details.
