I went to a sewing workshop and all I accomplished was this...

Earlier this week, I got to go to Sew Modern where Elizabeth Hartman was holding a workshop. Now she doesn't know this, but she is actually responsible for my quilting addiction (and subsequent fabric addiction too). Three years ago, as soon as I found out that baby boy was on the way, I searched Etsy for baby quilt patterns and came across her Modern Baby Quilt pattern.

my Modern Baby Quilt (it has binding now...)

Since making that first quilt, I have drooled over her others such as the Sparkle Punch Quilt, Space Invaders, Tokyo Subway, and Echino Quilt. I actually like almost everything she makes, but I'd exhaust myself typing them out here and making all those links!

I was thrilled that she was teaching us how to make patchwork letters and her refrigerator magnet letters. For the patchwork letter session she taught us how to create our own letter templates and then work with fusible. Of course, I changed my mind about what to write, so I ended up not being able to do the patchwork portion (didn't bring enough fabric), so I ended up with this:

I know it is a little plain, but I tried to remind myself that I was there to learn new skills, not necessarily start a new project (though doing that would have been fun too!). I chose this word because they are the only two letters that my son completely recognizes at this point and since he thinks I sew only for him, I didn't want to disappoint. He is in love with this and asks for his fabric all the time. Gotta love my little fella!

Although I have appliqued before, I did learn some great new tips! I also came up with a fun design for the refrigerator magnet, but that will have to wait for a later unveiling.

I know... all this text... so few photos. Now that's a sign of a good workshop, right? :)
